SOMETIMES YOU FEEL LIKE A NUT......

DID YOU KNOW......

A nut is actually the meat in the seed of certain plants – the egg of a tree, so to speak. They’re filled with proteins, oils, vitamins, and minerals the baby tree will need to grow – and all these substances are also very healthful for humans as well, when eaten in moderation. Raw, unshelled nuts are your best nutritional choice. The oils in them are fresh due to the natural protection of the outer shell, and since you’re cracking open the shell, you’re working for your food, slowing you down and encouraging you to exercise a little.

This is great; for the most part, we all eat too quickly, and we eat the foods highest in fats and calories fastest. When you eat nuts in combination with naturally dried fruit (without sulfur or other preservatives), it digests most easily, giving you a quick and healthy energy boost.

Don’t overdo nuts, though. They are concentrated protein and fat, and even though they’re healthy, too much of anything is not good. But they’re a far better choice of snack food than chips, candy bars, or cookies. Besides their healthful qualities, they’re filling and satisfying, take longer to digest than many foods, and the high fat content depresses your hunger for a significant amount of time after eating them. Roasted nuts, though they smell and taste delicious, are also generally coated with salt and MSG; and the oils have been changed to compounds that are less healthful and may even cause cancer. Unshelled raw nuts should be stored in the refrigerator.

Nut butters from the store, even those from health food stores, are not healthy because they’ve been roasted and exposed to light and heat for long enough to transform the fats. Instead of buying it prepared, make your own fresh every day.

So, GO NUTS over NUTS.....but don't overdo it!
